About Us

Splendid Fred Records is a music and spoken-word label based at the University of Winchester, actively promoting positive values and thinking for students, staff, and the wider community. Through original content and events, led by a team of artists, producers, and promoters, Splendid Fred Records aims to continually engage with new audiences and collaborators.

Background

Splendid Fred Records launched in 2015 with the release of A List of Things I Never Did, a compilation album of original songs featuring eleven different singer/songwriters. As part of the release, there was a special ‘launch event’ which featured live performances from several of the contributing artists and attracted coverage from the written press as well as BBC South Today.

2016 saw the release of the album This Changes Everything: 11 Songs About Climate Change commissioned by Joy Carter, the Vice Chancellor of the University of Winchester. The album raised money for OXFAM and WinACC and won a national Green Gown Award in 2017.

In 2018, Splendid Fred Records released the Climate Change song ‘Pass it On’, in collaboration with OIKOS, and The Nottingham Business School.

Ongoing in its pursuit of innovative content, Splendid Fred Records has expanded its artistic reach to include spoken word, and the label now produces original performance poetry, full-cast dramatisations, and audiobooks.

The Future

By continuing to release original music and spoken word, we hope to strengthen links with local venues, media, and charities, cementing our place in the community and elevating the status of emerging artists to kick-start their careers in the wider world.
